Noctua Unveils Next-Gen NH-D15 CPU Cooler & 140mm A-Series Fans For 2024, SP6 & SP5 Compatible Threadripper Heatsinks (2024)

Noctua finally has an update on its next-gen NH-D15 CPU cooler and 140mm A-Series fans which are coming in the first half of 2024.

Noctua Sets 2024 As Target Launch For Next-Gen NH-D15 CPU Cooler & 140mm A-Series Fans

The next-gen Noctua NH-D15 cooler has been delayed on several occasions but the Austrian cooler manufacturer was transparent about why that's been the case.

The company showed its roadmap which essentially shows that the development of the next-gen 140mm A-series fan has been ongoing since 2015 and for the first six years, the company had to scratch the development off and go back to the drawing board to make sure that the fans were up to the mark and really meant what it takes to be a next-gen design. Only in 2020 did a finalized version begin development & we know that this was the time when COVID-19 had taken the world by storm.

So now in 2022, the company is on its path to finalizing the design and making sure that it's ready for production. Since the 140mm A-series fan is a vital component of the next-gen NH-D15 cooler, the fan incorporates the following features:

  • Impeller made from Sterrox® liquid-crystal polymer (LCP)
  • Fine-tuned pressure/airflow (P/Q) curve for heatsinks and radiators
  • Ultra-tight tip clearance
  • Metal-reinforced hub
  • • Flow Acceleration Channels
  • AAO-Frame (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation)
  • Stepped Inlet Design
  • Integrated anti-vibration pads
  • SSO2 bearing
  • Current ETA: Q1 2024

That leads us to the next-gen, or 2nd Gen as Noctua calls it, NH-D15 CPU cooler which is just as massive as one should expect it to be. The 2nd Gen Noctua NH-D15 cooler will feature the new 140mm A-series fans and adopt a tailored fin stack design with reduced fin pitch (1.6mm instead of 1.9mm), offer 20% more surface area, and incorporate 8 heat pipes instead of six. The cooler can be expected around Q2 2024 and will have a pricing of around $150 US while the 140mm A-series fans are going to be priced around $40-$50 US.

  • Next-gen 140mm fans with superior P/Q characteristics
  • Tailored fin stacks with reduced fin pitch (1.6 instead of 1.9mm), 20% more surface area
  • 8 instead of 6 heat pipes
  • Offset design for better PCIe clearance, 9mm less overall depth
  • Torx® based SecuFirm2+TM mounting system with offset option for AM5 and NM-SD1 screwdriver
  • NT-H2 thermal paste and NA-TPG1 thermal paste guard
  • Current ETA: Q2 2024

In addition to the NH-D15 2nd Gen and 140mm A-series fan cooling solutions, Noctua is also making brand new CPU coolers for next-gen AMD Threadripper chips. The new coolers are based on the NH-U14S TR4-SP3 and NH-D9 DX-4677 4U designs. They will adopt a large 70x56mm contact area, offering full coverage for next-gen Threadripper CPUs. They will come with a dual-fan configuration and pre-applied NT-H2 thermal paste in a honeycomb pattern.

As for what next-gen Threadrippers Noctua is referring to, the coolers can easily support SP6 chips which will feature the mainstream workstation Threadripper lineup based on the same Zen 4 cores as Siena EPYC 8004 chips. The CPU coolers may also get future mounting support for the bigger SP5 socket though that isn't confirmed yet.

  • Based on the award-winning NH-U14S TR4-SP3 and NH-D9 DX-4677 4U
  • Large 70x56mm contact surface for full coverage of Threadripper processors
  • Dual fan configuration for maximum performance at high heat loads
  • Pre-applied NT-H2 thermal compound
  • Updated SecuFirm2TM mounting system
  • Current ETA: October 2023

In addition to these, Noctua also announced its new Chromax. Black line CPU coolers that will come in NH-D12L, NH-D9L, and NH-L9x65 flavors and available in Q4 2023. Finally, we have the brand new direct die mounting kit for delidded AMD AM5 CPUs. This new kit is designed to offer up to 20C reduction in temperatures versus when the IHS is mounted onto the Ryzen 7000 CPUs.

  • Developed in cooperation with Roman “der8auer” Hartung
  • Significantly improved thermal transfer, typical gains in core temperatures of 10-15°C
  • Ideal in combination with offset mounting (additional gains of up to 2°C)
  • Compatible with most Noctua CPU coolers since 2005 (e.g. NH-D15(S), NH-D14, NH-U14S, NH-U12A, NH-U12S, NH-U12P, NH-U9S, etc.)
  • Available June 2023 for a service charge of EUR/USD 4.90 via Noctua’s website
  • STL files will be shared on Printables.com so that customers can 3D-print the spacers themselves

The pricing of this mounting kit is said to be close to $50 US and is said to be made in partnership with Der8auer. There's also the new Offset mounting for AMD AM5 CPUs which shifts the heatsink directly over the hotspot of the new Ryzen 7000 chiplets, offering 1-3C lower temps.

  • 7mm offset shifts the heatsink directly over the hotspot of AM5 Ryzen CPUs
  • Better contact over the processor’s CCD(s) and more even heat distribution typically improve temperatures by 1-3°C
  • Compatible with most Noctua CPU coolers since 2005 (e.g. NH-D15(S), NH-D14, NH-U14S, NH-U12A, NH-U12S, NH-U12P, NH-U9S, etc.)
  • Bars can be installed in standard (0mm) or offset (-7mm) position
  • Available June 2023 for a service charge of EUR/USD 3.90 (Noctua website) or EUR/USD 4.90 (Amazon)
  • Black versions for chromax.black heatsinks
  • To be included with Noctua multi-socket CPU coolers from late 2023

Expect more information from Noctua regarding the next-gen cooling solutions in the coming months.
