Prisoners (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Kate Stables Sight & Sound Guzikowski's well-honed thriller occasionally idles under Villeneuve's dark character studies, but the director's powerfully imposed mood of dread elevates what might otherwise have been just a superior police procedural. Blue_Ink _ Heartbreaking, tense and incredibly compelling. Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal do amazing jobs at both their roles, and generate a ton of sympathy and tension from the audience. Going into this movie knowing nothing is the way to go, there is such great foreshadowing and connections throughout the film as the plot thickens that it really keeps you guessing as you go. I love films that give you pieces of the puzzle and reveal a whole picture at the end- but I'm usually really great at guessing plots but this one kept me on my toes and I most certainly appreciate that. Great movie if you're looking for a gritty and jaw-clenching 2.5 well-paced hours that resolves perfectly.
