little bit. we do have mainly sunny skies to kick off our monday temperatures right now close to the coast. we're in the 50s, a little bit of a mild air as you head inland. the 60s from livermore, danville, up through fairfield. but some of our cooler spots, typically this time of year, the valleys of sonoma county, you can see we are in the mid and upper 40s as you get going on this monday. today, temperatures are just a little bit above average. it is warm inland today. you can see we have a lot of sunshine already into the 80s. by 11 a.m, and then by the afternoon we'll go into the mid 90s and our hottest spots inland around the bay shoreline. not nearly as warm, but it will be mild. you can see all that sunshine we have in store for us today. it's a nice afternoon. we'll get those highs in the mid 70s and then along the coast. it's a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day, and temperatures in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. let's check in with sue. see those drive times this morning. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. 602 on this monday, metering lights turned on at 5.35 this morning. you can see already stacking up beyond the overcrossings for about a 12 minute delay from the back of

the line through the metering lights and then you'll see more brake lights as you get closer to the tunnel. and in the san francisco side, let's go to san mateo. we still have a sigalert. this is a live shot of 101 right near third avenue. an avocado spill. so that flatbed, they're unloading the spilled avocados onto that truck, and they're going to try to get that. you can see the overturned truck behind it. uh- get that cleared out of the two left lanes. actually, three left lanes remain blocked this morning. two right lanes are getting by with a backup. pretty significant now towards highway 92 on the north 101 side. there's another car involved in the accident right there at third avenue. so we do have a bit of a problem here with at least a 25 minute delay. try el camino real in the northbound direction. that looks pretty smooth sailing this morning. we'll keep following it for you. hope to have it out of lanes here within the next hour or so. we'll be back. >> this case has absolutely where it stands right now. has

no impact on her ability to be oakland's mayor. >> that was the reaction from oakland mayor shang tao's attorney after the fbi raided her home and properties connected to a recycling company. it's the closest thing to a response that we've received from the mayor. nothing directly from tao herself. and it's not just the federal investigation that she's being asked to respond to. there was the mass shooting where 15 people were were injured at lake merritt. and of course, there's the push to recall the mayor. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is in the studio this morning with the latest reaction from the community concerned with the mayor's silence and with safety in the city. >> good morning, reggie. we've been following the story from the start. for four days now. we've tried to get in touch with mayor shan tao and have not gotten any statement directly from her. her attorney tells us he hasn't seen any evidence that tao is the focus of the federal investigation, but oakland residents are concerned this investigation is impacting her ability to run the city. where

qingdao, where qingdao now about two dozen residents gathering outside oakland city hall yesterday, speaking out against oakland mayor sheng tao. the mayor has not spoken publicly since the fbi raided her home last thursday, and other local connected to california waste solutions agents were seen taking boxes of evidence away, and sources tell abc seven news this is a public corruption investigation. the mayor also has not spoken since at least 15 people were shot near lake merritt. >> and she's supposed to be our leader. she didn't even know. what. we don't even know what she is. she didn't even come in to apologize to what's going on with our city. these people that got shot like she didn't even come and say, we hope you all get better. >> the organizations asian unite and coalition for community engagement planned this rally, and these residents had previously been vocal in their support. to recall mayor tao.

last week, the registrar of voters confirmed there are now enough signatures, more than 40,000, to allow the measure on the ballot. those there, though, say the concern right now is not the recall but the city budget that will soon need to be passed. and we reached out to mayor sheng tao's office to get her take on that, but got no response. her attorney says the case has no impact on her ability to be mayor. and this morning, the group oakland united to recall shan tao is having a news conference and they're calling for her to return to city hall or resign immediately. live in the studio gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> this is clearly an ongoing investigation. we're going to stick to it, so stay with us on abc seven to learn about the latest happening with the mayor, how it affect the city of oakland. we'll continue to update abc seven news.com and the abc seven bay area app. >> a chaotic weekend in vallejo and not enough officers to respond. police say four people were shot sunday morning. there's no word at this point on their conditions. we do know it

happened around 3 a.m. near springs road in monterey street, and this one call took up most police resources, officers told the chronicle they weren't able to break up a large sideshow just a few miles away because they were tied up at the scene of that shooting. they say a crowd of 400 people or so gathered at the intersection of many drive and louis brown drive, and a car was set on fire during the sideshow. new details about a massive sideshow that stopped traffic on the bay bridge early sunday morning there were fireworks going off, cars doing donuts. some people parked on the bridge to watch other people were just stuck in the back up. this particular video was taken around 2 a.m. sunday from the eastbound span. chp tells us more than 150 cars took part in the sideshow, some of them even pointed lasers at a chp helicopter. the chp says the

sideshow started to break up around 2:20 a.m. and took several people into custody, tied to a hit and run crash and a separate police chase. >> we've been following the story for a week now, and this morning, firefighters are close to total containment on the point fire in sonoma county. they're at 90% right now. it's been days since that fire has grown south of lake sonoma. the fire destroyed three buildings last week. there are more than 360 firefighters putting out what is still smoldering. cal fire says the point fire is one of the largest fires they've seen in that area to happen before july first. >> fire season is certainly off to a busy start. several major fires forced evacuations over the last week. statewide, more than 90,000 acres burned, an area triple the size of san francisco. now, fortunately, we have not seen widespread damage to homes. >> a heads up if you're in the grizzly peak in tilden park, areas of the east bay. this week, the berkeley fire department is holding wildfire response drills that will happen

today, wednesday, and friday between 830 in the morning and 3 p.m. several other fire departments are also participating, so officials say while this looks real, you don't need to be concerned. >> we're learning more this morning about the speed of recovery from destructive fires. four years ago, the 2020 ccu lightning complex fire destroyed nearly 700 homes in santa cruz and san mateo counties, a new grand jury report finds only about one third of those homes have been rebuilt. homeowners said problems with insurance, the cost of rebuilding and complications with the permitting process has kept them from rebuilding the report recommends changes including a public private partnership to help victims and centers to expedite the building permit process after disasters. >> today marks two years since the us supreme court overturned roe v wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion. dozens of rallies and protests are planned across the country, including here in the bay area, to voice support for women's reproductive freedom. at least 21 republican controlled

states have successfully enacted abortion restrictions in the past two years. democrats are promising action if they if they gain control of congress in november. >> if we have the trifecta, the house, the senate and the white house, then we are going to make roe versus wade law of the land again. >> the supreme court could be looking at another landmark case this week. they are set to rule on whether or not medical emergencies override state abortion bans. that will happen before they leave for their summer recess. abortion is expected to be one of the top issues when voters go to the polls this november, and it's expected to be a big topic when former president trump and president biden meet for the first debate later this week. both men spent time over the weekend preparing for thursday. it will be the earliest debate in modern history. president biden, a former president trump, support the move, both hoping to reach early voters as >> for biden. i think it's going to be about really trying to

hone in on what he describes as the chaos of the trump years and for former president trump, he's going to be looking to seize on what he describes as the failures of the biden administration. >> and this debate will have a different format. there will be no studio audience, and the candidates microphones will be muted when it's not their turn to speak. you can watch that debate hosted by cnn right here on abc seven thursday night. abc news coverage starts at five and the debate starts at six. >> i mean, just look at this picture. it's gorgeous out there this morning. this is our sutro tower showing you the silhouette of the san francisco skyline. it is a bright morning out there. limited fog, only a little bit of patchy cloud cover along the coast this morning. so as we get you going out the door right now, you can see that sunshine is in full effect. temperatures warm very nicely over the next couple of hours. the jacket take it with you right now because we're starting in the 50s for

oakland police provided extra security for saturday's event, including 30 to 50 officers who were on hand to patrol its great. >> it's safe. there's plenty of police around that, don't. we cannot let these knuckleheads interfere with us living a good life fest. >> vendors say they appreciate the security measures put in place for this event. building a better bay area is our mission here at abc7 this morning. we want to share with you a win for a neighborhood that really needs one. in san francisco, a block party in the tenderloin giving hope to many families with kids. sunday streets sf, a program by the nonprofit livable city, came to the tenderloin over the weekend for the first block party of the summer season. the area is home to more than 3000 kids. there are plenty of activities, sports, and even circus performers. organizers say the event is a welcome break. while that area faces a growing drug problem, while we're working on solutions, the tenderloin deserves everything that everyone else gets. we deserve festivals block parties,

children being pushed on strollers. >> recently, city supervisors gave initial approval for a store curfew to help fight drug sales in the area. the board will meet again tomorrow to discuss that curfew further. >> san francisco's inaugural pride prom took over the san francisco center over the weekend. while it's open to everyone, the night was a way for lgbtq plus people to have a prom night specifically geared towards them. organizers say hundreds of tickets were sold for pride prom, and they hope to host the event again in the future. attendees say they were excited to show their pride in a fun and safe environment. >> i didn't come out in high school and i've never been very comfortable in a prom setting, so this is kind of my opportunity as a 25 year old woman to get that prom experience at pride. >> prom also helped to revitalize downtown. san francisco's core has struggled since the end of the pandemic, with empty office buildings, vacant storefronts, and a loss

times. but today it's all about that sunshine. even along the coast, i think we'll see more sunshine than cloud cover winning out throughout the day. we'll see 58.5 moon bay, but 64 in the city, a mild 72 in oakland, a warm 86 in san jose. we'll go to 90 in concord, 88 in santa rosa. it's just going to be an above average day in most areas. now, overnight tonight, we'll see a mix of stars and clouds, some of our cooler areas dipping into the 40s. but for the most part, we'll settle in the 50s and a couple of low 60s heading into tuesday. now it's getting to the time of the year where we have to talk about the chance of some monsoonal moisture. you know, in parts of arizona, new mexico, we're getting into the season where they can get thunderstorms. some of that can push into california . tomorrow. you'll notice some cloud cover in the morning. we're not anticipating any thunderstorms here, but we're watching the central sierra tomorrow for the risk of some dry lightning. we'll keep our eyes on that. but for the most part, we're looking lovely for the next 5 to 7 days ahead. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. warm sunshine today. there's that additional cloud cover tomorrow morning. we'll

san mateo, we have this avocado spill. it happened about 3:45 a.m. this morning. still trying to unload those spilled boxes of avocados onto a flatbed truck. the original truck that overturned is still in lane, so once they get the avocados cleaned up, then they've got an upright that box truck and get it out of the left lanes. so for now, two right lanes are getting by and a major backup now beyond highway 92 south delaware 82, el camino real. you're good. alternate routes at this time. if you stick with 101, it's about a 40 minute delay. >> thank you. sue. this morning we are still waiting to hear from oakland mayor shengtao after the fbi raided her home and other properties last thursday morning. sources say it's connected to a recycling company. the calls to hear directly from the mayor are growing louder from her critics. and it's not just the federal investigation that she's being asked to respond to. she's being asked to respond to that mass shooting where 15 people were injured at lake merritt. and

mayor also has not spoken since at least 15 people were shot near lake merritt. >> we expect her to be here when there are 15 people getting shot and stabbed a few days ago, and the mayor is absent. >> those at yesterday's rally, though, say the concern right now is not the recall, but the city budget that will soon need to be passed. the new budget could mean cuts to the number of police officers, the oakland police officer association president confirms that the new budget will freeze and eliminate 34 police officer positions, dropping the total number of officers to 678. the poa president says 91 officer positions have been frozen and eliminated in oakland in the last year alone, and mayor tao's attorney tells abc seven he has not seen any evidence that tao is the focus of the federal investigation and that it has no impact on her ability to be mayor. and we're still waiting

to hear directly from tao. i have reached out to mayor tao's attorney and also city hall representative this morning to see if the public will be hearing directly from the mayor today. so, of course, we'll let you know when we hear back. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. thank you. >> gloria, california democrats have agreed to delay a minimum wage increase for hundreds of thousands of health care workers to help balance the state budget. the deal was announced over the weekend. health care workers are supposed to get this raise starting july 1st. now it won't happen until october 15th if state revenue is 3% higher over the summer. and if that doesn't happen, this race could be delayed until january. the union for health care workers say that it's. the union says it's disappointed that the raise is being delayed, but appreciates that the race has been approved after more than 30 years in business in mcdonald's at stonestown galleria served its final happy meal, franchise owner scott roderick said the decision to close was gut

wrenching, but the community came out to show their support in recent days. >> was pretty overwhelming. the number of emails and phone calls that the restaurant team and i got of people sharing their family stories, the moments they spent at that mcdonald's, roderick says. >> out of the eight mcdonald's his family owns, the stonestown location is the most expensive to operate. when it came time to renegotiate their lease, he says taxes, rent, animal fees were just too high. combine that with state mandated $20 an hour minimum wage for fast food workers. and that was kind of it. >> the post covid economic hangover in san francisco, concerns about inflation on on both sides of my front counter uh- public safety, job creation and economic sustainability. the cost of living in the city of san francisco. all of these issues is uh- that are my issues are also my customer issues at stonestown, a different restaurant concept is expected

to move into that space later this year. >> new details about the push to bring giant pandas to the san francisco zoo. the big challenge will be paying for them, and now we're getting a better idea of how much it could cost, the chronicle reports. the zoo's financial director put the cost at as much as $70 million for a decade, so that includes the panda enclosure, thousands of pounds of bamboo every month, and the cost to rent those pandas from china. animal rights groups claim $70 million is a low estimate. mayor london breeds fundraising plan is focused on raising $25 million. the zoo's deputy director says it's premature to put a price tag on what the pandas would cost. >> fema is preparing for extreme hurricane and wildfire seasons with looming worries over funding, the agency is facing a major budget deficit that's only expected to get worse by the end of the year. weather science experts are forecasting a higher rate of disasters this year, maybe even record breaking at that pace, fema expects the

disaster relief fund to run out by mid-august. congress may need to step in to get more funding. >> developing news more than 1300 people, including an american couple, died during this year's annual pilgrimage to mecca in saudi arabia. this is according to reports from saudi authorities. pilgrim has faced extreme high temperatures during their miles long journey to islamic holy sites. the hajj, one of five pillars of islam, is one of the world's largest religious gatherings. close to 2 million muslims join this pilgrima this year. >> israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu said over the weekend he is interested in a partial cease fire deal that would not end the war in the middle east. netanyahu said israel is committed to continuing the war in order to eliminate hamas. the prime minister also said the intense phase of the fighting against hamas is about to end, referencing the offensive in the southern gaza city of rafah.

key bridge is finally leaving baltimore almost three months after the incident. less than an hour ago, the dolly sailed out of the baltimore harbor, headed for norfolk, virginia. that's where it will get repairs. with only a handful of its original crew, several of its crew members will be allowed to fly home within the next week. other crew members, including ship officers, will be required to stay in the u.s. until litigation regarding that crash is finished. >> princess anne is in the hospital this morning after she was injured by a horse at her estate. buckingham palace says the princess suffered minor injuries and a concussion, the bbc reports. it happened as she was walking a horse yesterday

evening. the 73 year old royal is being kept under medical supervision as she recovers the palace, says anne's brother, king charles is being kept updated on her health and sends his well wishes. >> tomorrow, san francisco unified will discuss how it will pick which campuses to close or merge the district is grappling with a budget deficit and low enrollment school leaders hope closing schools will save money and boost resources as the closures will be decided based on equity, excellence and effective use of resources. academic performance, historical inequity, student enrollment and teacher turnover for each school will also be looked at. >> apple and facebook's parent company, meta, have been in talks about pursuing a partnership primarily focused on artificial intelligence, according to the wall street journal. meta has talked with the cupertino based company about its about integrating its ai model model into apple intelligence, that is, the ai system being developed for iphones and other apple devices. that was announced earlier this

month at the worldwide developers conference. google and a host of other ai companies have also been in talks with apple to bring their ai models to the system. >> new at six alaska airlines has reached a tentative deal with if its 7000 union flight attendants. the deal ends talks that lasted for more than a year and a half. the terms of the deal have not yet been released, but the union called it a record contract. the deal likely contains a significant pay raise. that's been a common demand across the airline industry. for those who haven't seen a pay increase in years, an auto shop in san francisco's soma neighborhood could be turned into a public park. >> the chronicle is reporting that the city's recreation and park department has voted unanimously to buy the auto repair shop for $7.1 million. it's next to the gene field recreation center, which is currently being rebuilt. the proposal will turn the auto shop next door into an outdoor space for the rec center. the purchase will need to be approved by the city's board of supervisors.

>> new help for children and teens in the east bay dealing with mental health emergencies. today, contra costa health services is opening a new children's psychiatric emergency unit. it's at the george and cynthia miller wellness center in martinez. the unit will focus on kids 6 to 17. prior to this, children will receive car care, i should say, alongside adults at the contra costa regional medical center this morning. >> we're learning new details about the family drama behind the listing for that home in russian hill. we first told you about this last week on abc seven mornings. it is a three bedroom home in russian hill, and this is what got everyone's attention. it's priced at under half $1 million. however, if you buy it, you may not be able to move in for 30 years. our media partner, the sf standard, spoke with the current tenant. she's 83 years old and lives here with her 66 year old daughter. she says her son owns the home. the family is embroiled in a feud over money and property rights. she says she doesn't want the
